Want to freshen up your Wreckfest races a bit, or even completely rewrite the game? Then the following 10 mods are for you.
Wreckfest is a spectacular and crazy arcade racing game for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It is made in the classic derby style, where players have to destroy rival cars by crashing into them, pushing them off the track and causing large-scale accidents. The game was developed by the studio Bugbear Entertainment under the wing of the publishers THQ Nordic, who are planning to port Wreckfest to the next generation consoles in the future.
And, as is usually the case with popular PC games, Wreckfest is replete with mods. Some fans wanted to make the game even crazier, others wanted to add realism. So it’s time to take a look at the best Wreckfest mods. All mods from this collection are available on the Steam Workshop.
The first mod for Wreckfest was created by one of the custom workshop under the nickname SteelWalker, which decided to slightly overhaul the Wreckfest user interface. This mod changes the angle of view of the external camera during the races to make it easier for players to follow the track.
It may seem that this mod is of little use, but there will always be those to whom it will be very useful. The fact is that the standard camera angle in Wreckfest turned out to be not the best, and the only way to change it at the moment is to install the External Camera Mod.
Next on the list is Ejection! from user SRV. After installing this mod, drivers will start flying out of the car through the windshield during serious collisions. This is a pretty funny mod for those who miss this FlatOut feature that makes racing even more fun.
It works on both player-driven vehicles and AI vehicles. Unfortunately, the mod does not recognize cars from the DLC, so if you want to look at flying ragdoll models of drivers, you will have to limit yourself to the standard vehicle fleet.
The mod from user Vin Petrol is another way to add insanity to Wreckfest. The Pinball Mode mod rework the collision matrix, which is why cars literally start flying all over the track from the slightest touch. At the same time, the durability of each car has been increased so that you can enjoy the chaos on the roads to its fullest.
Now you will find hilarious pinball on the tracks, where instead of balls, heavy cars will fly in all directions.
Nascar Legends Online
Another mod from user Vin Petrol with an interesting story behind it. While he was developing Nascar Legends Online, he accidentally discovered the collision matrix effects, whipped up a Pinball Mode mod, and then went back to the original project. This mod makes the races in Wreckfest more similar to the classic Nascar races. The driving mechanics have been significantly redesigned, and a special Oldsmobile Cutlass has been added, which can be customized to suit any of the Nascar cars.
And on the page with the description of the mod, you can find a list of servers where the races in the Nascar style with the use of the mod take place.
Another work by Vin Petrol, dubbed ASSR, is intended to recreate classic production car racing in a Wreckfest setting. Here, as in the Nascar Legends mod, the physics of the behavior of the cars has been changed, as well as new models and themed skins for the existing cars have been added. Moreover, the mod slightly changes the ready-made locations so that they look more like race tracks.
A complete redesign of the gameplay is a feat, especially for a solo author, and we never cease to be amazed at the enthusiasm with which the modding community is releasing quality content for your favorite games.
Online Bangers: Wreckfest
This mod is still in development and its ultimate goal is to make Wreckfest races as similar to classic British stock car races as possible. It added new skins, changed the damage model, and also tweaked the physics of the behavior of the cars to recreate the desired atmosphere.
This mod has a separate server and its own chat in Discord, where players can agree to host British racing championships at Wreckfest. The authorship of the mod belongs to the user Sam223.
The mod from user Pritchard is more of a cosmetic upgrade than a massive gameplay overhaul. There are several weather effects in Wreckfest by default, but Pritchard’s Weather Mod significantly expands their range, and also adds the ability to race in the game at night, evenings and mornings.
According to the modder himself, sometimes even such minor changes help gamers to dive deeper into the world of the game.
Pritchard’s Contact Effects
In his next mod, Pritchard has updated the car collision effects in Wreckfest. Now, during accidents, sparks and small parts chipping off the bodies fly in all directions.
Moreover, in this mod the wreckage of cars lies on the track longer, so the consequences of spectacular accidents can be observed even a few laps later.
Cars Movie Skin Pack
This cosmetic mod adds several new skins to Wreckfest. And the main feature is that these are skins of cars from, in fact, the cartoon “Cars”. User Harry BSc was responsible for this beauty.
At the moment, the mod includes the skins of Lightning McQueen, Chico Hicks, Doc Hudson, Cheng Tuning, nicknamed “King” and Sally Carrera, but in the future the modder plans to transfer even more characters to the game. A great option for all Pixar animation fans.
Rainbow Road 64
This mod adds a completely new track to Wreckfest: you probably remember it in Mario Kart 64 on Nintendo 64. This is an exact copy of it with minor changes, without which the track would be difficult to adapt to the physics of Wreckfest.
The mod was developed by a workshop user under the nickname Devbot, who decided to combine his favorite games (Wreckfest and Mario Kart) and did a titanic work for this.
