Here are some of the most impressive shooters in video games, from seasoned cowboys to girls with flawless sights.
If, when playing games, you usually adhere to the philosophy of “first shoot, and then ask questions”, then you must have always been impressed by experienced shooters from virtual worlds. They quickly reach their holsters and even faster cut the lives of their enemies, relying only on their trusty weapon and their deadly accuracy.
Pistols, of course, lack the accuracy of rifles, the rate of fire of machine guns or the damage of a grenade launcher, but in the hands of tough shooters, they look like the best weapon in the world – flexible, deadly and incredibly cool. And the following characters work best with pistols.
Not every shooter is a cowboy, but every self-respecting cowboy (especially in video games) must be a professional shooter. And it is the classic archetype of the laconic cowboy that is embodied in the person of Clive the Shooter – the hero of the eponymous platformer for Nintendo 3DS, who over the course of two games dealt with enemies with the help of a faithful six-shooter revolver.
He only had one weapon to send in batches of Elvis’ look-alikes, aliens, giant robots and even tyrannosaurs.
And although Naoto is far from a cowboy, the shooter from her turned out to be as daring as from Clive. So daring that other Persona 4 characters initially mistook her for a guy. Naoto has dreamed of becoming a private investigator all her life, following the example of her father and grandfather, and she compensates for the lack of experience and confidence with shooting skills that even Sam Spade would envy.
Naoto is masterful with his weapons, using both normal and magic bullets with the help of his Persons. Thanks to this arsenal, the gameplay for Naoto turned out to be perhaps the most creative in the entire series, because players can collect unique combos from the heroine’s ammunition. Other characters cannot boast of anything similar.
Shooters can even be those heroes who masterfully own not only pistols, but also melee weapons, such as Kusagari from Red Steel 2. The hero coexists with all the stereotypes about samurai and cowboys, and the gameplay perfectly combines both fighting styles.
The main emphasis in the action is placed on Kusagari’s signature weapon – his katana, but the hero is not at all averse to shooting at numerous enemies, especially since he is surprisingly effective in doing this.
Of course, the League of Legends hunter uses spiritistic weapons, but the design and animation of this weapon makes it clear that we have slightly modified pistols. And since Lucian shoots with two hands, this means that in theory he is capable of doing twice as much damage as the characters we mentioned above. And that’s not to mention his unique abilities.
Giant lasers that cut enemies like butter, debuff shots, and superluminal dashes make Lucian the MOBA version of the classic action hero. If all this is not enough for you, then at your service is his “ult” called “Shooting”, during which the hero firing nonstop from both pistols, which would look perfect in the finale of some action-packed story.
Many shooters (including Naoto) looked into fighting games, but none of them within this format managed to become as effective and deadly hero as Sharon. There are only six rounds in her revolver, but Sharon is a master at shooting from any angle, making her best at keeping enemies at a respectful distance in Fighting EX Layer.
But this shooting works best in those moments when Sharon suddenly flies up to opponents immediately after the shots and can throw or grab, as well as launch a chain of crushing blows at stunned enemies. Sharon is the only shooter in our selection who doesn’t know how to reload quickly. But it’s for the best: this way her opponents have at least some chance to defeat her.
The Final Fantasy series regularly emphasizes how useless firearms are, but Vincent’s pistols are the exception to the rule. They themselves are capable of destroying numerous enemies, and when Vincent becomes a member of the squad, he makes a serious contribution to every battle, attacking opponents from the back row and while being protected by his comrades.
In theory, this does not sound as impressive as it looks in practice, since Vincent is a gifted shooter who never misses, including from his beloved Death Penalty pistol. It looks like an ordinary revolver, but by the name you can guess what destructive power it has.
Due to a bug in the original version of Final Fantasy VII, this weapon could destroy the superboss Emerald Weapon in one shot. And, most interestingly, Vincent fires his astronomically large caliber revolver using just one hand, as befits any tough shooter.
Long-legged beauties can also be deadly shooters. However, Bayonetta impresses not only with her beauty – she went even further than Lucian, strapping two pistols to her heels, thanks to which, in any battle, she is able to simultaneously fire four pistols at once.
Despite the fact that the heroine, apparently, is a master of all types of weapons, she prefers her pistols to all other options. We should also mention the incredible design of these pistols, which can be safely called the most elegant weapon in our selection.
Jesse McCree doesn’t need laser cannons and gravitational manipulation to compete with other Overwatch heroes – just a classic revolver is enough for him. With a refined aiming skill and fast reloading, our cowboy is able to play on equal terms with cyber ninjas, flying heroines with grenade launchers, and even armed time travelers. Jesse knows how not only to shoot, but all his abilities are sharpened to complement the destructive fire from a revolver.
He can fire an entire clip of six rounds at once, dealing massive damage, or dodge enemy attacks, instantly reloading on the go. In his arsenal there are also light grenades, which allow stunning opponents, so that it is easier to shoot at them, as well as “ulta”, which inflicts critical damage on all enemies in the field of view of the hero.
Ocelot may not be the deadliest shooter in video games, but he certainly enjoys his profession more than anyone else. As you might guess, his favorite weapon is a revolver, which looks rather dubious compared to other weapons in the Metal Gear Solid universe, but Ocelot takes a special pleasure in his own vulnerability during reloading and values it much more than a tactical advantage.
Ocelot makes up for the limited ammo capacity of his weapon with his outstanding skills. In a fair fight, he can easily turn Solid Snake into minced meat, and he is also great at shooting at targets in cover with the help of extremely accurate ricochets. And, of course, he never misses the chance to demonstrate his incredible revolver juggling skills whenever possible.
It is difficult to find a character that would allow the player to get into the role of a shooter from the Wild West as deeply as Arthur Morgan is a member of the famous Van der Linde gang. The thing is that shooting for him is not some kind of entertainment. Arthur Morgan lives every day like the last, being on the other side of the law and planning robberies, and therefore his pistol is almost the main tool for the hero’s survival.
Moreover, Arthur’s skills are significantly superior to the skills of other characters from this collection. His ability “dead eye” at first just slows down time, but soon Arthur with its help already easily shoots whole crowds of opponents, and also targets the vital organs of individual enemies. The hostility of the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is not tough for everyone, and Arthur Morgan is one of the few people who can cope with it.
