10 games where the story is better than the movie | Easy Online Work

From Indiana Jones-inspired adventure games to grisly psychological horrors, these games can easily compete with cinematography in their storylines.

It’s sad that some moviegoers are missing out on some of the most gorgeous stories in the world – just because they’re not gamers. After all, not all games on the planet are battle royale and annual sports simulators – among them there are real containers for the most shocking narrative secrets of all.

And while this is still more the exception than the rule in some games, the gameplay serves the storytelling rather than the other way around, which turns the conventionally addicting shooter into a work of art. From Indiana Jones-inspired adventure adventures around the world to the most terrifying psychological horror thrillers, the games below have as much storylines as most movies.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (2011)

The Uncharted series is not shy about its sources of inspiration, and probably could not exist at all if it were not for the films about Indiana Jones. The plots in the games in the series are based on accurate information and meticulous research, which has probably already allowed them to surpass the historical fantasies of the Indy series.

Drake’s Deception may not be the favorite Uncharted installment among fans – the title belongs to Among Thieves or A Thief’s End – but it’s definitely the best story in the entire franchise. The game follows Nathan Drake trying to find Iram the Many Columns, the lost city that T.S. has talked about a lot. Elliot, or Lawrence of Arabia. The film adaptation of Uncharted is scheduled for next year, but its plot is still unknown, and we think Drake’s Deception would be the ideal basis for this motion picture.

Bioshock: Infinite (2013)

Based on the fantastic sky city of Columbia, the plot of Bioshock: Infinite is as hard to explain as it can get. The story revolves around Booker, a private detective sent to Colombia in search of a missing girl. Leads his rescue operation to unhealthy sects, parallel universes and one of the most depressing game endings in the world. The project uses its game format to its advantage, because if there is a game in the world for which it is impossible to shoot something, it is Bioshock: Infinite.

However, Infinite is not the only thing that is remarkable – the first part of Bioshock was also a magnificent, full of secrets horror thriller. The game featured a distorted, unsettling tone, intimidating Big Daddies, and an unexpected late game twist that would have to search for your jaw on the floor.

Red Dead Redemption (2010)

Once upon a time, in the 50s, 60s and 70s, Westerns were released in dozens, as if they were coming off a conveyor belt. Writers have been producing scripts by the tons, and much faster than they are today. But here and there, there were some special pleasant exceptions to the routine, where the genre skyrocketed with epic films like The Good, the Bad, the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West.

It is from these paintings that the monumental Red Dead Redemption draws inspiration. Not devoid of the classic theme of revenge and actively playing along with the peculiarities of the genre, Red Dead Redemption is at the same time a western of unprecedented proportions. Not only is the game better than most Western films, but its sequel, Red Dead Redemption 2, is every bit as good as the first, and easily beats any Western movie released today.

Silent Hill 2 (2001)

Psychological horror films were heavily inspired by this game, which leads the now familiar story of monsters born from the mind of a protagonist, which are allegories for something much more intimate. Of all the psychological horror films with mentally shattered protagonists, the video game is the one above all. The second installment of the Silent Hill series also includes the very first appearance of Pyramid Head, one of the most terrifying villains in video game history.

Unfortunately, Silent Hill’s film adaptations have received extremely negative reception from fans and critics. However, this only demonstrates how good the games are, and how they can tell stories in a way that is ordered for the film industry.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020)

There is so much material on Spider-Man in the world that one wonders how fans haven’t gotten tired of Webhead yet. The eighth blockbuster, featuring MCU hero, No Way Home, is due out this year, and upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 just got its own trailer.

Miles Morales’ name gained a lot of attention after the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018, but Marvel’s Spider-Man did a much better job of portraying the character. Spider-Man: Miles Morales showed the rise of a hero and told a story far more gripping than any movie about Spider-Man – or any other superhero, frankly. This game is a great example of why Sony should release a Spider-Man movie dedicated to Miles Morales.

The Half-Life series

Not many games rely on such a high-quality information base as the Half-Life series. The main plot follows a scientist named Gordon Freeman, who must escape from a research laboratory infested with aliens – but all this, however, is only on the surface of the phenomenon that makes the franchise so perfect.

In the course of the series, so much history is revealed for each location and each seemingly not the most significant object that it could fill a dozen books. Even episodic characters get rich biographies – as well as competition between two rival research organizations, Aperture Science and Black Mesa. Unless the secrets of the missing icebreaker Borey have not been revealed, and most likely it will take a long time to reveal them to the fans.

Grand Theft Auto IV (2008)

The Grand Theft Auto series is good for its satire of the American Dream and parodies of real people, plus an open world and a la “sandbox” gameplay. But on a deeper level, Rockstar has always been awe-inspiring and proud of the storytelling component of the world-famous franchise.

The best story in the series turned out to be the unexpectedly realistic vicissitudes of the Eastern European immigrant Niko Belik, who wholeheartedly wanted to get away from a life of crime. There are strong parallels here with the best crime films, but what is shown particularly poignantly is Niko’s lack of choice in most situations. Where Hollywood films can be guilty of romanticizing violence, GTA IV is set in the harshest and dirtiest storyline in the series, featuring some of the best villains in the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

Tomb Raider (2013)

The Tomb Raider games have never had a particularly deep history paramount to gameplay. Usually the plot revolved around Lara’s attempts to outrun the group of mercenaries in order to be the first to get to the artifact that could bring the end of the world. However, 2013’s Tomb Raider completely relaunched the series, so much so that it even touched the direction of future film adaptations.

Thanks in part to the success of Uncharted, the Tomb Raider franchise has taken the storyline to the next level and placed Lara in a more realistic setting. The narrative here showed how she learned to defend herself after being attacked, which added to the emotional weight of her story.

Shadow Of The Colossus (2005)

Shadow of the Colossus tells its story the way the best films do – subtly, unobtrusively, without massive explanatory and descriptive volumes. Instead of the characters constantly chatting about this and that in an attempt to explain what is happening, Shadow of the Colossus is in no hurry to do anything like that. The whole point, all the interest, is precisely what Colossus does not tell the players.

The plot unfolds around Vander, carrying an unconscious woman to a beautiful, but forbidden land. A mysterious spirit orders him to kill those many monsters that inhabit these lands, protecting them. And maybe there is no interactivity or shock factor of the GTA level, Shadow of the Colossus has one of the best open worlds in the gaming industry – all because it is covered with an exciting mystery.

Far Cry 3 (2012)

The reasons Far Cry 3 has a better storyline than many movies simply boil down to its antagonist, Vasu. This character is on the par with Darth Vader and the Joker when it comes to the most iconic villains of all time. You are especially similar to the Joker, sharing his primary desire to see how the world around you is burning.

In the game, we participate in the attempts of the playable character Jason to save his friends from a group of pirates on the fictional islands of Rook. These islands are like a mixture of the ostentatiousness of the Pirates of the Caribbean and the harsh realism of Captain Phillips. Given how few pirated films we have today, Far Cry 3 could serve as the basis for a couple of great movies.
