In The Legend of Zelda series, Ganon took various forms. We’ll cover all of them.
This is the most famous antagonist of the franchise. As the main villain since The Legend Of Zelda (1985), he has appeared before us in several guises.
Due to the fact that all versions of the Demon King are unique, players often argue which form is the most powerful. Below are the variations of Ganon, ranked by his strength.
Game Failure Screen (Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link)
Quite an unusual case. The fact is that Ganon himself does not appear in Zelda II, the only side-scrolling part. But he can be seen during the failure of the game – an eerie hint that after Link’s death, Ganon takes over the kingdom.
In the first part, the protagonist defeated the villain, so he needs the hero’s blood to resurrect. In Zelda II, Link tries to wake up Princess Zelda. Ganon is also related to events: his henchmen appear in the game.
Resurrected Ganon (Four Swords Adventure)
The main villain of this spin-off is Vaati. After defeating him, the player will have to fight Ganon. This battle is a very memorable moment in the Four Swords Adventure.
This version of Ganon is capable of teleporting Link to the Dark World. Be on the lookout: the antagonist uses the spear like a boomerang and summons his minions to help. Zelda gives Link a magic bow that can be used to defeat Ganon.
Original (The Legend Of Zelda)
The very first Ganon is surprisingly versatile. He teleports around the room and shoots fireballs at Link. Sometimes the villain takes breaks – at this time you must attack him.
The battle does not take long. In hindsight, it looks a lot different from Zelda’s massive final fights, but it worked out great for the first time. Decent debut for the series’ most famous antagonist.
Ganon-Oracle (Oracles Of Ages / Seasons)
This mega-boss only appears after completing both parts of Oracle. The battle is really huge, and also very difficult. It can be considered a “reward” for defeating all bosses in two games.
Ganon again has the ability to teleport. The villain also brandishes a trident and tries to trample the player. He saved the best for last: towards the end of the fight, the controls are inverted. Rotational attacks are effective against Ganon. The Master’s sword and Biggoron’s sword will also be useful.
South Ganon (A Link Between Worlds)
One of the most unique battles with Ganon, mainly due to portraits – the most interesting mechanics of the game. Link must merge with the arena wall in order to catch up with the Yuga and shoot at it with the Bow of Light.
In addition, the villainess launches energy balls. To avoid damage, you will have to play tennis with her. She also throws spears at you. This challenging and addictive battle is one of the most memorable 2D games.
King of Evil Ganon (A Link To The Past)
The most dangerous 2D-Ganon consists of five phases, each of which is stronger than the previous one. Now the Demon King not only throws a trident, but also sets fire to the floor – in some places it falls through. And at a certain moment it gets dark: light torches, along the way to escape from Ganon.
This is a real test of endurance. Instead of constantly dealing damage, you just need to stay alive: in this case, dodges play an important role. The battle with the King of Evil is the grand finale of A Link to the Past, one of the best parts of the series.
Gannon Disaster (Breath Of The Wild)
The last guise of the antagonist is also not entirely human. This Ganon was able to destroy Hyrule and capture the Castle. The kingdom was saved only with the help of Zelda’s magic.
The power of four Divine beasts can only take half of his health away from him. Therefore, Link will have to use the same tactics as in the fight with the ghostly Ganons. As a result, the villain will take the form of the Dark Beast. Equip yourself with the Bow of Light to end the tyranny of Ganon.
Dark Lord Ganondorf (Twilight Princess)
This is the darkest part of the series, especially in the final battle. Don’t forget that this Ganondorf has already captured two realities and is facing off against one of the strongest Links in the franchise.
Defeating the antagonist and his bestial form is not easy. In the finale, Link literally kills Ganondorf. A fitting conclusion to the Twilight Princess and one of the most memorable moments in the series.
Gerudo Ganondorf (Ocarina Of Time)
This is the first appearance of this version of the character. All subsequent battles with Ganondorf are based on this battle. Against Link, he uses a series of attacks, including a shockwave, an energy ball, and a multi-purpose energy beam.
After defeating Ganondorf, the castle collapses and the antagonist turns into Ganon. He knocks the Master’s sword out of Link’s hands, so now you have to do without the legendary weapon. Withstand Ganon’s final attack and deliver a crushing blow to his head – and the epic battle is over.
Ганондорф (The Wind Waker)
Perhaps this part is the most unusual battle. The scene with Ganon’s puppet is a very complex but thoughtful introduction to the main fight. You will have to defeat Ganondorf, who is armed with two blades. He towers haughtily above Link – no mercy for such a villain.
This battle is not so magical compared to others: here Ganondorf wields a masterful sword. At the beginning of the battle, Zelda assists you, but the antagonist knocks her out, and you are left alone with him. He delivers a series of indestructible blows that you can only dodge. But in the end, Link will pierce Ganondorf’s head and turn him to stone.
