Halo 1 Mod Adds New Mode And Supports Master Chief Collection

Halo SPV3.3.0 no longer requires Halo: Combat Evolved 2003 on PC.

Surely someone else still has the Halo: Combat Evolved Product Key Disc. All in all, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, comprised of the original game and its sequels, offers a complete PC gaming experience, but there is always a desire to return to the good old 2003 Halo: Custom Edition multiplayer that is still played today. No need to store this disc anymore: The latest version of SPV3, the biggest Halo mod, now supports the Master Chief Collection.

Halo SPV3 (or Singleplayer Version 3) was first released in 2017 and was a completely redesigned Halo with new levels, weapons, and enemies. In 2019, the game received a major graphics update to 4K resolution. So now that the Master Chief Collection is readily available on Steam, it’s hard to imagine anyone trying to play it differently. The recently released SPV3.3.0 mod addresses this issue while simultaneously supporting MCC and adding many new features, including a gunfight mode and ray tracing.

SPV3 can automatically scan your computer to see if you have Halo: Custom Edition or the Steam version of MCC installed. If so, it will install and you can play. The developers report that they are actively working on supporting the Game Pass version of MCC, but the Windows Store makes things a little more difficult.

The video above introduces most of the new features, including ray-traced reflections (not global illumination, so don’t expect huge changes), new weapons and vehicles, and a firefight mode to contain waves of enemies. The main drawback of the mode is the lack of multiplayer – the mod simply does not support it. However, it is an impressive expansion with a brand new game mode from 20 years ago.

Skip to the 11:20 mark in the video to access the Skirmishes section. You can download SPV3.3.0 on ModDB, and if you have any difficulties, the developers recommend joining the SPV3 server on Discord.
