How to enable tethering on iPhone

Gone are the days when you had to pay 7 rubles or even more for each consumed megabyte of Internet traffic. Now it is possible to pay for such services at once in large volumes, giving about 100 rubles for 3-4 GB of traffic. Most people use this very traffic, of course, on smartphones, which are extremely versatile devices, but sometimes it becomes necessary to share this very access to the global network with other people or just with some secondary gadgets. As practice shows, iPhone owners often wonder how to enable modem mode on Apple smartphones, because there may simply not be such an item in the settings of the iOS 14 operating system or any older one.

When a SIM card is inserted into an Apple phone, it identifies the operator that owns the SIM card, and then downloads data from the servers via the mobile Internet or Wi-Fi network about which authorization settings should be used to distribute Internet traffic to other devices. As a rule, this process occurs automatically, but this is not always the case. Sometimes iPhone owners complain that the modem mode cannot be turned on at all, because there is no such setting in iOS, or it is available, but when the modem mode is turned on, there is simply no Internet access on third-party devices. In this case, there is absolutely no benefit from it, since it is not possible to connect to the global network.

How to enable tethering on iPhone

It is very simple to enable tethering mode on any iPhone, if all data was loaded automatically. To do this, you need to launch the “Settings” application, then open the “Modem mode” section and activate the “Allow others” switch, having previously entered any desired password to access the Wi-Fi network, which the Apple smartphone will create. This very password must consist of at least eight of any characters. In the event that there are no connections to the “iPhone” for 15 minutes, the modem mode will turn off automatically, so then it will have to be manually turned on again. It is not possible to change this time range, as Apple does not allow this.

If there is no “Modem mode” section, you must manually enter the operator’s data in the phone settings. To do this, open the “Cellular” section and go to the “Cellular data network” subsection. Here you need to fill in the “Cellular Data” sections, as well as the “Modem Mode” located at the very bottom. The settings that you need to specify may vary depending on the specific operator. You need to enter exactly the data that belongs to your mobile operator whose SIM card is installed in the iPhone. After entering the data, after a few seconds, the section for enabling the modem mode should be activated and become available for use.

If necessary, you can reset your cellular data settings and then restart your iPhone. In this case, the mobile device will try to independently re-upload all the data via the Internet, but it is not a fact that it will succeed, so it is better to manually enter all the necessary information, especially since this procedure does not take much time.
