New details of the filming of the sequel to the series by Lars von Trier have become known. The director recently revealed that he plans to start working on the third season of Kingdom, which aired from 1994 to 1997, this summer. Together with the screenwriter of the first two seasons, Niels Wörsel, Trier will direct five episodes, completing the story of the staff of the Royal Copenhagen Hospital. The famous director managed to reunite several actors from the original cast, including Gita Nörby, Peter Mügind and Søren Pilmark. Lars von Trier was supposed to shoot the end of the series 20 years ago, but due to the deaths of Ernst-Hugo Jaregord and Kirsten Rolffes, who play the main roles, he had to postpone filming for an indefinite time. It is known that the premiere of “Kingdom” will take place in 2022.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will halve the number of new members. This decision was made due to the fact that in the past few years the Academy has brought in too many filmmakers to its staff, trying to meet the new demands of racial and gender diversity. It turned out that maintaining and supporting almost ten thousand employees is problematic.
Five years ago, the Academy was criticized for the first time because of the unequal numbers of women and men, and the lack of black professionals. The executives pledged to rectify the situation by 2020: each year they recruited a record number of filmmakers from different genders and ethnicities. As a result, in a short period of time, the number of women in the Academy has doubled, and representatives of different nationalities – in 3. However, the Academy cannot afford such a rapid pace of community expansion, therefore, starting this year, new representatives will be admitted less often.
The leaders also plan to develop individual instructions for each guild. It will describe the rules for admitting new specialists to the Academy. The criteria will not apply to participants in the award itself.
The shooting of the new film by Pedro Almodovar with Penelope Cruz in the title role has been completed. Madres paralelas (Parallel Mothers) is the Spanish director’s eighth collaboration with actresses Penelope Cruz (Pain and Glory, The Return) and Rossi de Palma (Open Embraces, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown).
The picture will be devoted to one of the key themes in the work of Almodovar – motherhood. According to the director, he is incredibly inspired by “imperfect” mothers, and the story of three different mothers will unfold on the screen, played by Penelope Cruz, Aytana Sanchez-Gijon and Milena Smith. The details of the plot are still unknown, but the author himself characterizes the picture as “intense drama.”
Pedro Almodovar began work on the script for “Madres paralelas” a few years ago, and was able to finish the story only during the coronavirus pandemic. Filming started at the end of March in Madrid and its surroundings. After the filming was over, the creators delighted the audience with exclusive shots of the upcoming film and backstage. Since the production of the film fell during the pandemic, videos showing how work is carried out on the site in the coronavirus capture historically important moments for cinema.
