The world premiere of Kirill Serebrennikov’s film “The Petrovs in the Flu” took place at the 74th Cannes Film Festival. The 51-year-old Worldn director’s film participates in the main competition of the film festival.

“The Petrovs in the Flu” is a screen version of the novel of the same name by the Yekaterinburg writer Alexei Salnikov. The film tells about the Petrovs, the most ordinary uncommon family: the main character works as a car mechanic, his wife works in the library, and his son goes to school. Nothing boded trouble, until one day all family members fell ill with the flu. Then madness rushes into the life of the Petrovs, bordering on surrealism, mysticism and fantasy.

The main roles were played by Semyon Serzin, a young director, actor and creator of the Invisible Theater, and Chulpan Khamatova, an actress and founder of the Grant Life Foundation. Also involved in the film are Yulia Peresild, Yuri Kolokolnikov, Timofey Tribuntsev, Varvara Shmykova, musician Ivan Dorn and others.

Actors and members of the film crew came to Cannes to present the picture, and Kirill Serebrennikov could only watch the live broadcast: the director is prohibited from traveling outside World. The show took place at the famous Lumiere Theater. The actors and producers of the picture, as a sign of support for Serebrennikov, put on badges with his photograph and initials. In addition, a place in the hall was symbolically reserved for the director, which remained free until the end of the show.

The former head of the Gogol Center theater has previously shown his work at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2016, in the Special Look section, the painting The Pupil was presented, and in 2018, his painting Summer about Viktor Tsoi participated in the main competition of the festival. Then the director was also unable to come to Cannes, as he was under house arrest.

The rights to show “Petrovs in the Flu” have already been purchased by more than a dozen countries, including France, Germany, Israel, Great Britain, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and others.

Video service Apple TV + has signed a cooperation agreement with the Worldn film company ARContent, Alexander Rodnyansky. It is the first film studio to have such a deal outside of the US or UK. In his opinion, streaming services that invest in local content are changing the rules of the entire film community that have worked for several decades.

The online platform Apple TV +, compared to its competitors, started working not so long ago, in 2019. At the time of launch, streaming was available in over a hundred countries around the world. The world premiere of the biographical drama about Princess Diana “Spencer”, starring Christian Stewart, will take place at the Venice Film Festival. The new film by Chilean director Pablo Larrain tells about the period in the life of the princess, when she decided to divorce Prince Charles amid rumors of his betrayal.

Spencer’s plot takes viewers back to the early 1990s to Sandringham Palace in Norfolk, where the late princess spent her last Christmas holidays with the royal family. The director of the film admitted that it was not by chance that he chose Diana’s maiden name for the title. In Spencer, Pablo Larrain tried to explore the moment when Princess Diana gave up her royal title to be “herself.”

Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight worked on the script for the drama, and Jack Farthing (Poldark, Poirot) played the role of Prince Charles. The film will be widely released in 2022 to mark the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death. In 2016, Pablo Larrain directed Jackie about Jacqueline Kennedy in the days following the assassination of her husband, which earned Natalie Portman an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. As a reminder, the 78th Venice Film Festival is scheduled to take place from September 1 to 11.
