New items inspired by the popular TV series will be added in the new version of the game and will be free for all current owners.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt came to PC almost 6 years ago: its grand finale, the Blood and Wine DLC, has been around for over 5 years. Despite its advanced age, new content is on its way: a “next generation update” will be released later this year on Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 5 and PC, and there will be new content based on the Netflix series.
More information on the new content “coming soon”, though it is anyone’s guess if it comes out later today or later at the end of the year. However, hopefully, this DLC will not have new locations to explore or quests: the updated cover of The Witcher 3 Complete Edition states that it will include “additional items inspired by the Netflix series”: swords, armor and maybe , something pleasant for Roach.
The addition of new items is not unprecedented: CD Projekt has released 16 free DLC packs since the release of The Witcher 3, including new quests, clothing, contracts, Gwent cards and more. Yes, this is unexpected for new content for a 6-year-old game, but I suppose you could argue that the next generation release is “new.”
Regardless, the new content is free (I’m a huge fan of free), and while that might not be enough to justify another playthrough (or maybe so?), It will definitely be a nice bonus for newcomers to Geralt’s adventures.
The specific release date for the next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has yet to be announced, but in case of any doubt, CD Projekt has clarified that it will be a free update for anyone who has already purchased the game. I went to the studio for the news and will share it if I receive it.
If you can’t wait for the new free stuff, here’s how to make Geralt from the game look like Geralt from Netflix with a couple of mods.
