Nothing enhances your immersion like being able to see a tree falling on yourself in person.
While Valheim does not officially support modifications, modders work tirelessly. There is already a mod that improves the building system, so changing the perspective was only a matter of time. That’s right, Valheim now has a mod that allows you to play in first person mode.
Despite the fact that the First Person View mod is still under development, and the game itself does not look quite familiar, it works surprisingly well. After playing for literally half an hour, you will notice that the wonderful world of the game looks even better if you look at it through the eyes of the character, and not through his shoulders. Here’s a small example:
With the mod, the combat system deteriorated slightly. Using the shield, you will only see the inside of it, so it will not be easy to follow the movement of the weapon. There are also slight distortions in the character’s body when moving and looking around, but swimming, on the contrary, is done well.
The main advantage of the mod is that it does not tie you to the first person mode. The mouse wheel allows you to zoom in and out of the field of view, instantly switching from third-person to first-person mode. So, if difficulties arise, you can easily return the game to the usual form.
First Person View only works in conjunction with the BepInExPack Valheim mod, but don’t worry, it’s easy to install. After the first run it creates a plugins folder where you just put the First Person View mod. Both works have readme files that explain how to run mods. In addition, the First Person View has a configuration file where you can edit the FOV values from both first and third person views, and change the font size of damage notifications. You can find the mod on Nexus Mods.
